How to get to The Heke

How to Get to The ‘HEKE

The 'HEKE is at 64 Onetangi Road, directly opposite the golf course, on the golden ‘kilometre’ of Onetangi Road.

To catch the Fullers ferry from downtown Auckland, arrive at least 15 minutes before departure time (up to 45 minutes to be safe in case it’s busy), and check the timetable here. Check out our post on ways to get cheaper ferry tickets here.

To reach The Heke on Onetangi Road you will pass Wild Estate (800m) -> Stonyridge (500m) -> Tantalus (400m) -> Postage Stamp (200m) -> THE HEKE!  You can walk from one to the other if you visit more than one.

With a Car: Just navigate to 64 Onetangi Road. We have a big car park.

Without a Car: When you get off the ferry at Matiatia Wharf you can taxi, rent a car, electric bike, scooter, or catch the bus.

Bus: You can use your AT HOP card on Waiheke buses. There is a regular bus stop close to our gate. Get on the bus to Onetangi and ask the driver for THE HEKE on Onetangi Rd.

Bike: Bring your bike or hire from a local company - we love ERIDE Waiheke and you’ll find them in the ferry terminal when you arrive. They have maps ;-)

Bus

Plan your trip on the ATHOP app. Put in Matiatia and 64 Onetangi Road. The local bus network on Waiheke connects the foot ferry at Matiatia and the Kennedy Point car and foot ferry, with all suburbs and the most popular beaches, shops, and restaurant areas. At the moment bus fares are just $2.20 per person with a ATHOP card which you can get at the the ferry terminal if you don’t have one.

If you want to stop and shop at Oneroa village on the way here, you can jump on and off a bus, and if you’d like to head all the way to Onetangi beach you can get there too. The buses on Waiheke are frequent, cheap and economical.

Recently most of the buses on Waiheke were replaced with fully electric buses, so they are quiet, eco-friendly and not polluting the island’s roads!

Buses don’t take cash but you can use your AT HOP card to get around on the bus services. The Hop on Hop off service has a separate ticket that you need to buy from Fullers at the ferry terminal, or online from their website.

The Heke is 64 Onetangi Road, (sadly not on the map yet) but we are right between Tantalus and the word ‘Onetangi Road’ on the right hand side of the map.

Fullers Hop on, Hop off bus

The Hop on, Hop off bus lets you tour the island at your own pace, and is the most affordable way to travel around the island. Your return ferry fare is included in the price! The bus stops at 16 locations around Waiheke. You can purchase a one or two-day pass. The two-day pass must be used on consecutive days.

One-day pass: Adult ($89), Child ($45), Family of 2 adults and 2 children ($195)

Other Waiheke Bus Routes

Check the timetable. At the time of writing, the 1, 1A, 3, 4 run alternately to provide a connection approximately every 15 minutes from 7am to 7pm, 7 days a week (and less frequently outside of these times) with Oneroa, Surfdale, Ostend and Onetangi.  (N.B. The 3 goes all over the place so I’d look for 1 or 4 if I were you)

The Fullers Hop On Hop Off stops outside our gate. Just ask the driver to drop you at The Heke bus stop and walk 30 metres along Onetangi Road until you see our sign, straight across the road from the golf course.
